Marketing Insider Secrets
Clients sometimes ask me, what is the secret to marketing success? Today, I’m here with not one but three insider secrets!
Secret number 1: Even the Pros struggle with consistency
When I first started Red Lab Marketing in 2020, I didn’t get consistent with creating social media or newsletter content for months. I was busy growing my business and managing a full caseload of clients. It wasn’t until I hired someone to help me that I was able to start publishing content consistently on my blog and social media channels.
Too often, clients compare their content to other coaches or service providers that they see online. They say things like “Her instagram is amazing and I know she makes money on each and every email she sends!” But, those brands and influencers you love? Many of them have entire TEAMS to help them. They have someone creating and publishing content for social media, they have a funnel builder to create automations, they have a copywriter for emails, they have a web manager to maintain their website, and they have someone who does SEO and Google Ads.
As a solopreneur or small team, you can’t compare yourself to that. Now, I’m not saying you shouldn’t create content. But what I am saying is that you shouldn’t judge yourself if your newsletter isn’t as consistent as you want or you haven’t had the capacity to publish content on another social media channel. Trust me when I say that this was a lesson I needed to learn myself!
Secret number 2: Sometimes what’s best is to get off social media
Here’s the deal. Sometimes the best thing for you is to take a social media break. For those of you watching this, you went into business to be a coach, or a Feng shui consultant, or to create a killer online course. You didn’t go into business to be a social media marketer. But, yet when I talk to clients, they tell me they are spending more than half their time creating and posting content. Even worse, they feel the pressure to document every moment of their lives for the ‘gram.
Consider this my invitation to you to STOP doing this. First you need to create a social media strategy so you know exactly what to post and when. A plan of action will allow you to stop asking the question “WTF do I post today?” And Will save you a ton of time. It will also allow you to consistently post content that will grow your audience and convert them into clients. I specialize in creating custom social media strategies so schedule your discovery call today.
Also, it is so NOT necessary for you to share every detail of your life with the internet. For me personally, I’d rather enjoy my day at the beach rather than being stuck behind a lens. Create boundaries for your social media and stick to them.
And lastly, when you are feeling like you would rather puke than look at LinkedIn for another second, take a social media break. Choose to go offline for a week or so. I promise when you come back you will feel rested and ready to create killer content and connect with your audience again.
Secret number 3: You’re the secret weapon!
As a social media strategist, my jam is creating a step-by-step plan of action for social media success. But strategy aside, the number one thing that can help you grow your following and convert them into clients is YOU.
That’s right- YOU! You are the only one who can tell your story and has your particular set of skills. The more you show up online as authentically yourself, not who you think your audience wants to see, the easier you will be able to find your tribe online.
