ALL ABOUT TIKTOK

Let’s talk about TikTok…

So, unless you’ve been living under a rock, I’m sure you know that TikTok is a big deal. How big of a deal is TikTok you ask? Well, according to a recent article from Marketing Dive, TikTok's ad revenue is expected to triple this year, surpassing Twitter and Snapchat combined.TikTok’s meteoric rise in users  is causing brands to pull advertising dollars from other social platforms and double down on the platform.

So, what does this mean for your small business? It means that you may be missing out on a HUGE opportunity to grow your business and reach new clients. Now, you might be saying, “Mariana, you always say to avoid spreading ourselves too by thin by publishing content in too many places.” Here’s the deal, yes- that still applies. BUT, if you are a brand that is already utilizing video content, it’s a missed opportunity to not consider TikTok.

I’ll be honest when I say it took me a long time to jump on TikTok. To me, it just seemed like a place where American families were posting choreographed dances to the same 5 songs to alleviate the boredom of Covid lock downs. Plus, as a team of 2, it can be very difficult to consistently create consistent video content with so much else to manage.

HOWEVER, my perspective has changed.

Currently, TikTok has over 1.2 BILLION monthly active users and in 2021, dethroned the all-mighty Google as the most popular web address in the world for the first time. Demographics for the platform skew younger, with 40% of users being 18-24. But that doesn’t mean older folks aren’t on the platform. In fact, over 3% of users are over the age of 55. I gotta tell you, there are some hilarious and sassy grannies that I’ve discovered on TikTok! Another statistic to consider is that TikTok’s advertising reach in North America is 142.2 million users aged 18 and above.

If you are worried about having to dance, lip sync, or be a master video editor, you shouldn’t be. I’m seeing a ton of no-frills, informative content that is KILLING it on the platform.

So, if you are a brand that is already utilizing video content, TikTok may be an obvious next step. While I’m personally just getting rolling publishing my own videos on Tik Tok, expect to see me there more as I double down on short form video content for my brand.
