Can I change my ideal client Avatar?

Here’s a question I was recently asked- “can I change my ideal client profile?” My answer? Of course you can? There’s no rule of business or marketing that says you can’t revise your ideal client avatar. In fact, I strongly encourage you to review it regularly as your business grows and evolves.

So you may be saying to yourself, “I’d like to revise my ideal client avatar, but I’m not sure where to start.” You can begin by asking yourself these three questions.

1. Am I clear on my current offerings?

Take a minute and consider your offerings. There may be work that you are currently doing that isn’t in alignment with your goals. You want to get super clear on which offerings you want to keep and which you want to stop providing.

Now you may be thinking, what do my offerings have to do with my ideal client profile? Here’s the deal, as you go through the process of creating your new ideal client avatar (ICA), you will want to  focus on understanding the specific needs of folks who would want and need the work you’re the most passionate about providing.

2. Who do I really want to work with?

When building out your ideal client profile, it’s helpful to think about the clients you love working with. What do they have in common?  In thinking about everyone I’ve done work for in my time in business, I’ve landed on the following: I love working with passionate, funny, progressive female entrepreneurs who value my knowledge and expertise and who will pay full rate for my work.

When you have a clear idea of who you love working with now, you can create an ICA profile that will guide your marketing to be a magnet for the  same type of folks.

3. Do I have the right tools for this?

An ICA template like mine can help guide your thinking and allow you to create a strong ICA. Or check out these tools from Digital Marketer and Optin Monster.
